What is the difference between a cap and a hat? A hat has a flap all the way around while a cap has a flap, the visor only at the front. Then of course there are exceptions because many hats will not have that flap of fabric going all the way around. Ski caps don’t have a visor at all. In general caps are what you see on this page while a hat is generally bigger and doesn’t fit tightly and closly to the head like a cap does.
